After her brief stint as a high school English teacher, she founded a non-profit organization called Mariposa’s Art. During her eleven years as Executive Director, the organization served over 14,600 youth, providing high school students with paid career internships teaching art, music, and fitness to thousands of elementary school children. Theresa then went on to re-design a national health and beauty curriculum for the Girl Scouts of the USA, called Uniquely Me!, which provides over a million girls and women the opportunity to develop media awareness skills, a deeper sense of self-love, artistic self-expression, and the opportunity to be leaders in their local and global communities.

Samba dance has transformed Theresa’s relationship with her body and her entire life. Theresa fell in love with Samba, and studied, performed, and taught it as an “evening career” the past twelve years. Theresa directs Samba circus fusion performances and has danced at music festivals, NASCAR starting lines, cruise ships, and grand-scale electronic music parties all over the world. She also loves to dance Samba with fire and on stilts!

Theresa is also a musician and artist. She loves playing the Brazilian bass drum called the surdo and designing electrifying dance costumes. She studied Vocal Performance, English Literature, and Secondary Education at James Madison University and graduated with honors.
